Induction Day 6 Update

Today is day 6 of 28 for Asher’s Induction Phase of treatment. They call this the “mean phase” because he gets chemo every 4ish days and he is required to be inpatient until the phase is complete. We hope to go home on time, December 1st.

Asher is still doing really, really well. As if today they even unhooked him from the central line that was giving him fluids so he doesn’t have to drag his pole around. I assume he will get re-hooked up for a few days when his next treatment starts, but I think he is pretty happy to be free. Although I will say he got pretty used to dragging the pole around and taking rides on it to the play room. He is on a heavy dose of steroids so his appetite big, but the chemo makes things taste different so he wants to eat mostly salty/savory foods. He woke up at 2am and wanted me to order him a quesadilla. I could have ordered it but I talked him into peanut butter on bread. Then at 7:30am he woke up and said “now can I have a quesadilla?” So, that’s what he had for breakfast…with a side of fries. Blech. The doctors want him eating lots of calories and we have been instructed to give him whatever he wants. I see lots of weird food combinations in our future.

He still has his curly locks. We don’t know when his hair might start falling out but we have been assured that it will happen at some point. Until then we will enjoy his crazy bed head. Charlotte is able to visit often and they have fun together while she is here. Today he was sleeping when she arrived so she slid into bed with him and watched a movie. She likes the playroom too, especially the painting area. He looks so good I don’t think she really worries about him being here, which is good. BUT, I can tell that she is starting to miss Dave and I. Starting this week we should get to spend lots more time with her.

That’s about it. Thank you for all of the continued prayers, they are working!
